Overview

JAXA is releasing the data on sea surface temperature observed by the Global Change Observation Mission – Water “SHIZUKU” (GCOM-W) and the Global Change Observation Mission – Climate “SHIKISAI” (GCOM-C). Since ocean covers 70% of the Earth, sea surface temperature has a big impact on weather and climate, such as the occurrence of typhoons, hurricanes, and the El Niño phenomenon. It is important data to understand extreme weather and climate change.

Data on sea surface temperature is utilized not only for the field of weather forecast, but also for the field of fishery.
